Garritan demo piece
Cirque de Daphna
I was still learning how to orchestrate when I wrote this piece, so it was a big challenge. I actually wrote it because I was trying to get into a filmscoring workshop and I sent in this piece with my application. I didn’t get into the workshop, but I am still glad I applied, because this piece wouldn’t otherwise have been written. I should also mention that the main recurring theme that you hear was based on a short piece that I had written for solo piano several months prior.
Already Dead
I was always fascinated by the music Jerry Goldsmith wrote for “Planet of the Apes”; in this piece I tried going for a similar effect, but of course while keeping to my own stylistic preferences.
Talking to Myself
I had been listening to Aaron Copland’s score for the movie “Of Mice and Men” (the 1939 version) and wanted to try to write something in a similar vein, for orchestral practice.Okey Dokey Corral
I originally wrote this for a TAXI listing, and at the same time, I wanted to see if one could really write an orchestral piece right in GarageBand (non-notation), and this was the result. Apparently it can be done! I played in some of the parts, and for others I used the pencil editor for better accuracy.
The City
This piece, originally written for a documentary production, was based on a painting titled the same, by Italian artist Sveva Caetani. The images were so powerful for me that they evoked this music.
Hope
I set out to write a piece of music that captured what the emotion of “hope” might actually sound like, and this was the result.
Garritan demo piece
This is a short piece I composed during the process of writing a review of the Garritan Personal Orchestra sample library. It was interesting to work with and I did find some of the samples and features of the program to be very useful. If you are interested, my review is in macCompanion’s August 2006 issue.
